Sharing the Load

Every now and then, during my yoga practice, I feel like connecting with an ancient wisdom that resides in my body. Today was one of those days.

Because of an injury and lazy summer days I hadn’t been to practice much over the last 8 weeks, and it started to show: my mind was one tight knot that held on to mental balance for dear life. My family noticed how I walked around with an increasing sense of unhappiness and an unhelpful dose of being judgemental. Everything felt so tight!

When hot yoga practise began, and I started moving intentionally through the heat, my body and mind slowly started to unwind. A thought came to me: “Your mind doesn’t have to carry it all by itself.”

… my mind can share the load!

I am able to come here, leave my mind outside the front door, and lean into the wisdom, strength and energy of my body: breathing, slowing down, contracting, lengthening, releasing, attending.

My mind gets to rest and I come out, recharged, energised, more balanced, more hopeful, more spacious - less tight.

I’m thankful for that and take this moment of joy with gratitude.
