Lying on Your Yoga Mat

One of my greatest moments of joy is to lie on my yoga mat at the end of class in Shavasana. It simply feels good. The straight, hard surface provides me with a feeling of stability that grounds me and oozes calmness.

It is not something I experience anywhere else. Even lying straight on my back in bed doesn’t feel the same; the mattress is firm but for this purpose too soft, and I’m too far away from the floor.

It is the connection with the ground that carries me, that brings with it a certain quietness, and I’m able to become more aware of how much I belong to myself - body, mind and spirit - all connected; all three coming together, here on the floor.

I love this sensation; such a simple thing – so much power.

A clear moment of joy for me. What moments of joy do you encounter on your journey of connection?
